In a game that was supposed to be against the Star City Bulldogs, the Warren Lumberjacks defeated the Booneville Bearcats 42-35 in another non-conference contest. Star City canceled the scheduled 8-4A conference contest due to COVID-19, and Warren, within one day, picked up a game with Booneville, which had also had their planned conference game canceled due to COVID-19. It allowed both teams to take part in a competitive game. A sold-out Warren crowd was on hand to witness the contest while following COVID regulations.

The Bearcats kicked off to begin the game and Warren took over at their own 39. The Lumberjacks were forced to punt and Booneville blocked the kick returning it for a touchdown. The extra point was good and Booneville took a 7-0 lead. After the kick off to Warren's 40, the Lumberjack offense committed several penalties and were again forced to punt. The 50 yard punt by Zander Hemphill left Booneville at their own 11. They promptly drove 89 yards and in the second quarter scored from three yards out. The PAT made the score 14-0.

Warren took the ensuing kick off at their own 38. The Lumberjacks struck quickly on a 59 yard touchdown pass from Maddox Lassiter to Payton Byrd. Jose Jacinto made the point after and the score was cut to 14-7 in favor of Booneville.

The Bearcats took over at their own 16. Warren's Zander Hemphill recovered a fumble at the Booneville 20 and then Warren scored on a three yard run by Payton Byrd. Jacinto hit the PAT and the game was tied 14-14.

The Lumberjacks kicked off and Booneville took over at their own 32. They drove the ball and scored on a 17 yard pass to make the score 21-14 after the successful point after. It was the only pass thrown by Booneville in the game.

On the next Warren possession, Lassiter hit Jarard Payne on a long pass. On the following play he threw a nine yard touchdown pass to Jacari Lee. The extra point was good by Jacinto and the game was again tied at 21-21.

The Lumberjacks kicked off to Booneville to begin the second half. The Bearcats drove to the Warren 22 where the Lumberjack defense rose up and stopped them on 4th down.

After a run of 59 yards by Cedric Calvert, Trelon Marshall ripped off a 23 yard touchdown run and Jacinto made the PAT to put Warren ahead 28-21.

On the next Bearcat possession, the Jack defense again stopped Booneville on downs. Calvert raced 53 yards and then Marshall scored on a seven yard run. The point after was not good, but Warren wa ahead 34-21.

On the ensuing Booneville kickoff return, the Lumberjacks forced and recovered a fumble. The Jacks couldn't capitalize however.

In the fourth quarter Booneville again scored on an eight yard run and cut the score to 34-28.

Warren took over at their own 28 after the kick off and got in trouble with a third and long situation. Maddox Lassiter had to leave the game for one play and Byrd went to quarterback. He connected with Tayshawn Johnson for 48 yards and a first down. It was a great catch by Johnson. The Lumberjacks moved the ball and Johnson then scored on a 16 yard run. Warren went for two and Lassiter hit Payne for the conversion to make the score 42-35.

Booneville moved the ball quickly after the kick off and scored on an eight yard run and made the score 42-35. They then tried an onside kick which was recovered by the Lumberjacks who ran out the clock to secure the win.

It was the best night of the year for Warren's offense. Calbert ran nine times for 145 yards. Marshall ran nine times for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Byrd ran five times for 23 yards and a touchdown. Lassiter threw 13 times and completed eight for 169 yards and two TDs. Byrd was one of one for 42 yards.

Byrd also had four receptions for 77 yards, while Johnson caught two for 40 yards and Lee caught two for 10 yards. Payne caught one for 43 yards.

The Booneville running back had 205 yards on 25 carrys.

The Lumberjacks had 479 yards total offense and Booneville had 328. It was a hard fought game by both teams.

The Lumberjacks are scheduled to play a conference game against Dumas for Homecoming next Friday at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium. If it is played, it will be Warren's first conference game of the year. The Lumberjacks are getting better as the year progresses. Help them keep playing by wearing your mask and social distancing.
