The Warren Lumberjack football team and a good number of their fans, as allowed by the Health Department, traveled to DeWitt, October 16, 2020 to face conference opponent DeWitt. This is only the second conference game for the Lumberjacks due to two conference opponents having canceled games for COVID-19 reasons this season. Warren came away with a convincing 48-6 win. It was homecoming night at DeWitt.

Warren kicked off to start the game and forced a punt, taking over at the 47-yard line of the Dragons. Warren drove the ball, but mistakes forced Warren to turn the ball over on downs at the DeWitt 19. Again the Warren defense forced a punt and the Jacks took over at their 43. Again Warren drove, but again were forced to punt. The stout Lumberjack defense forced yet another punt and the Jacks took over at the Dragon 40 to end the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Trelon Marshall raced 40 yards for a touchdown. The PAT by Bryan Reynoso was good and Warren went up 7-0.

The ensuing kickoff by Warren's Jesse Deleon left the Dragons at their own 24. DeWitt was forced to punt by that strong Lumberjack defense and Warren took over at their own 26. The Dragon punter was excellent all night, but he had to be.

The Lumberjack offense moved the ball on the ground and through the air, as Maddox Lassiter hit Jacari Lee on a 24 yard touchdown pass. Reynoso made the point after and Warren led 14-0.

The kick-off by Deleon left DeWitt at their 17 and while the Warren defense continued to play well, they gave up several third and long passes for first downs. DeWitt hit a pass to the Warren four and then scored on a two-yard run. They went for two and failed, to leave the score 14-6.

Warren took over after the kickoff at the DeWitt 43. Shortly thereafter, Cedric Calbert scored on a nine-yard run. The point after was no good. Warren led 20-6.

On the last play of the half, Lassiter threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Payton Byrd. The PAT by Reynoso was good and Warren went up 27-6 at the half.

The game quickly got out of hand when Warren's Jacari Lee returned the opening second-half kick-off 72 yards for a touchdown. The point after failed and Warren was up 33-6.

On the ensuing Warren kick-off to the Dragons, DeWitt fumbled and Lumberjack Tayshawn Johnson scooped up the ball and raced in for a touchdown. Calbert ran in the two-point conversion try and the Jacks were ahead 41-6.

Warren's defense held on downs and Warren's second offense entered the fray. DeWitt intercepted a Warren pass on third down.

The Jack defense, with several second-teamers in, held on downs, and soon after, Warren's Zy'Kei Trotter scored on a 16-yard run. Reynoso made the point after and Warren led 48-6.

Deleon squib kicked to the DeWitt 41. Again, the Warren defense held on downs and the offense ran out the clock. The final score was Warren 48, DeWitt 6.

For the Lumberjacks, Marshall ran eight times for 74 yards and one TD. Trotter rushed nine times for 59 yards and a touchdown and Calbert ran twice for 13 yards and a TD. Quarterback Lassiter passed 15 times and completed 9 for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Byrd caught one pass for a touchdown. Jacari Lee had a 72-yard kickoff return for a TD and Tayshawn Johnson had a 22-yard fumble return for a score.

The Warren defense held DeWitt to -31 yards rushing and 119 yards passing. The Lumberjacks had 364 yards in total offense.

The Lumberjacks travel to Monticello next week to play an improved Monticello team. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.

Thursday night the Warren Jr. Jacks defeated DeWitt 34-14 and the 7th Grade Baby Jacks won 20-14.
