For the first time in several years, Monticello took home the Union Bank Saline River Shootout trophy thanks to an 18-12 win over the Lumberjacks in overtime. In a driving rain for most of the night Warren's offense made numerous good plays and threatened to score several times but bad snap exchanges, penalties, and dropped passes stopped them from scoring. The defense while holding Monticello to only 12 points in regulation gave up several key runs and had a couple of breakdowns in coverage. Warren had the ball on the Monticello 7 yard line with seconds to play and could not score. In overtime, the Billies scored on a ten-yard run on the first play to go-ahead 18-12. Warren got their shot and a bad snap lost 15 yards and the offense could not score. It was a very disappointing evening for the Lumberjacks.

Warren had a great and supportive crowd and at times looked like the much better team, but they missed several opportunities to score with inconsistent play and too many mistakes.

Warren kicked off to open the ballgame. Monticello took over at their own 16 after excellent coverage by the Jacks. On a third and long Monticello converted a deep pass. With 5:10 remaining in the quarter, the Billies scored on a 14 run. The two-point try was no good and Monticello went up 6-0.

Warren took over after the kick-off, but was forced to punt.

The Warren defense then forced a punt, but Monticello kept the ball most of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Warren fumbled at their own 25, but the defense stopped Monticello on downs. The Jacks moved the ball very well. The teams kept battling back and forth and with 39 seconds left in the half, Maddox Lassiter hit Cedric Calbert for a ten yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked and the score was 6-6.

The Lumberjacks received the second half kick off. Monticello intercepted a pass and took over at their own 44-yard line.

In the third quarter, Monticello scored on an eight-yard run and again failed on a two point conversion.

In the fourth quarter, Zander Hemphill made a big defensive tackle out wide to the left.

Warren got the football back, and Lassiter hit Jared Payne on a long pass into Monticello territory. Lassiter then connected with Trelon Marshall for a 19 yard TD. The PAT was missed and the score was tied 12-12.

Warren did get the ball back on the Billie seven-yard line with seconds left, but could not find any points.

In overtime, Monticello scored on their first play from to open the first OT.

Warren's offense was unable to answer, and the Jacks dropped the game by the final of 18-12.

Marshall had 154 yards rushing. Lee had 52 yards and Lassiter was 11 of 19 passing for 143 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Lumberjacks had 328 yards total offense but struggled to finish drives.

Warren will face Hamburg at home next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The game is important to try and secure as good a seed as possible for the playoffs in this unusual year of high school football.

Lumberjack fans come out, wear your mask and social distance, but stay with this team. They have talent and can get even better yet.
