The Warren Lumberjacks took on an old foe, the Dollarway Cardinals, in a non-conference game Friday night at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium. It started out a pleasant evening and turned into a driving rain at the start of the second half. The weather eased up later and then picked up again as the game ended with a 39-6 Lumberjack victory.

Warren received the opening kick off and moved the ball before fumbling. Dollarway took over and moved deep into Warren territory, even converting one 4th down into a first down. They scored on a 13-yard run and failed a two-point conversion making the score 6-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

An onside kick left the Jacks with the ball at their own 44. Again Warren moved the ball but fumbled. Dollarway took over at their own 37. After a Lumberjack defensive stand, the Cardinals punted to the Warren 7-yard line.

In the second quarter, Warren moved the ball, aided by a big pass and run by Riley Cornish to Vincent Stepps. Steppes capped off the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. After two consecutive offsides penalties against the Cardinals, Warren chose to go for two and Steppes ran it in to put Warren up 8-6.

Jesus Tinoco put the kick-off into the end zone and the Cardinals started at their own 20-yard line. Warren's defense forced a punt and the Jacks began moving the ball. At the 9:10 mark of the second quarter, Steppes scored on a 9-yard run. Tinoco made the point after and Warren went up 15-6.

Tinoco kicked deep and after a penalty Dollarway started at their own six-yard line. The swarming Jack defense forced another punt and Warren took over at their own 47. The Lumberjack offense moved the ball and ended the drive with an eight-yard TD pass from Cornish to Jett Reep. Tinoco hit the PAT and put Warren ahead 22-6. Another kick off into the end zone by Tinoco pinned Dollarway deep and the Lumberjacks forced another punt. After a bad snap, Warren took over at the Cardinals 24-yard line. As time ran out in the first half, Tinoco hit a 30-yard field goal to make the halftime score Warren 25, Dollarway 6.

The Lumberjacks kicked off to start the second half as the rain came down hard. The Lumberjack defense stopped Dollarway on downs at midfield. With 5:46 remaining in the third quarter Vincent Steppes ran 14 yards for a touchdown and Tinoco was good on the PAT to put Warren up 32-6. Tinoco's kick off again went into the end zone. The Jacks forced yet another punt and took over at their own 36. Big runs by Aaron Doggett led to a five-yard touchdown run by Doggett with 1:28 left in the third quarter. Andres Jacinto kicked the extra point and the Lumberjacks were ahead 39-6.

Again, the Tinoco kick off was into the end zone, and again the Lumberjack defense stopped Dollarway. The Jacks moved the ball well with tough running by Aaron Doggett and Cedric Calbert. Warren fumbled around the Cardinal twenty and Dollarway recovered. With the rain coming down and a Dollarway player needing an ambulance, the game was called due to weather with just over five minutes remaining. The final score was Warren 39-6.

On the night, Vincent Steppes ran 17 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns while Doggett ran 5 times for 80 yards and a TD. Calbert ran 5 times for 31 yards.

Cornish was 14 out of 23 for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Receiving wise, Smith caught 6 for 62 yards. Lee caught 4 for 49. Steppes caught two for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Jett Reep caught one eight-yard TD and Calbert caught one for 11-yards. Warren rushed for 213 yards and passed for 165. Dollarway had a total offense of 101 yards.

The Lumberjacks now begin conference play by facing the Crossett Eagles at Jim Hurley, Jr Stadium Friday night, September 27th with kick-off set for 7:00 PM. This game begins Warren's quest for a conference title and playoff opportunities.
