WHS Studens packed 23,500 meals which will remain in the area to help families in nee.

Football. ..Food Banks. .. Fearless fans.  Warren High School football players, cheerleaders, band members, coaches and several teachers and staff gathered August 9th in the activities center of the First Baptist Church of Warren to celebrate their selection for participation in the 2018 Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic presented by hootens.com, pack meals and for local food pantries.

Warren High School is one of eight teams selected to participate in the competitive,championship-caliber high school football showcase for 2018.  Other schools are from Bauxite, Conway Christian, Foremen, Fouke, Parkers Chapel, Smackover and Southside Batesville.

Warren will face Southside Batesville in the 2018 Kickoff Classic on Saturday, August 25, at North Little Rock High School Stadium.  To help get the team and town excited about the game, a community pep rally was held.  At the pep rally, it was announced that students and staff had gathered just prior with Arkansas Blue Cross employees to pack 23,500 meals for the food pantries benefitting:

*Ebenezer Baptist Church
*Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church
*Arkansas Foodbank Network
*First Baptist Church of Warren.

The Pack Shack of Rogers, Arkansas, conducted a "feed the funnel party" for the students to produce the nutritious meals.  The meals will be counted toward Arkansas Blue Cross' Fearless Food Fight initiative to celebrate its 70th anniversary later this year.

"This is the third year for Arkansas Blue Cross to sponsor the Kickoff Classic and we couldn't be happier to be supporting the teams and towns where they live with Pep Rally with a Purpose events,"said Curtis Barnett, president and chief executive officer of Arkansas Blue Cross.  "The heartbeat of our company is serving Arkansans.  Because our state is ranked 2nd in the nation in the number of people facing food insecurity, we are reaching out in advance of the games and making a deeper investment in the Arkansas communities where these students, coaches, teachers and administrators, parents and other folks live, learn, work and play."

As a very small token of Arkansas Blue Cross' appreciation for the hospitality shown by the citizens of Warren, and to extend its investment in the youth of the community, Warren High School received a $1,500.00 check to be used to help in its activities.

"We appreciate Arkansas Blue Cross affirming youth across the state and being involved in a positive activity like high school football,"  said Chad Hooten of Hooten's Arkansas Football. "Not only will all eight teams get to start this season in grand style, Arkansas Blue Cross will enable the players, cheerleaders and band members to help their communities while having a lot of fun before the games.

The Lumberjacks were joined by a large crowd of family and fans for the pep rally and a desert auction to raise money for the athletic department.  There was great participation and obvious excitement for the upcoming football season.  The players, coaches, cheerleaders and band are ready to get the year underway.

The opening game is set for Saturday, August 25th at 12:00 noon in North Little Rock at NOrth LIttle Rock High School.  All Lumberjack fans are encouraged to attend and support this outstanding team as it seeks another championship year.  The game will be livestreamed by salineriverchronicle.com.  Be sure to secure your membership by going to lumberjacklive.com.  The game can be watch live, if you are unable to attend and can be watched later on demand.
