The North American Soccer League says they are fighting for the lives or their teams and league, and have sued the US Soccer federation saying the Fed has no authority to set qualifications for divisions. This all started late in summer when USSF demoted the NASL from Div 2 to Div 3. On Saturday a federal judge denied the NASL request to maintain Div 2 status. On Sun NASL filed an appeal. This could drag on.

• I support the idea of the NASL as an independent, almost rebel, voice in American soccer. (We need as much of that as we can find.) But from the start they have been poorly run, had ulterior motives, and acted in a very arrogant fashion. Oof, oof and oof.
• As time has gone on the NASL has shown any humility in the way they run their league, in fact they have gotten more obnoxious and arrogant.

Three of the super-scumbags of FIFA begin their trials this week in New York City. First up are Manuel Burga (Peru), Jose Maria Marin (Brazil) and Juan Angel Napout (Paraguay). By David Conn for the Guardian.

MLS PLAYOFFS

The winner of the Toronto/Columbus series is hosting MLS Cup on Sat Dec 9.

Not to insult all the great players that succeeded in the Quarterfinals but the 2 biggest events were Toronto's key players acting like immature children and getting suspended for the next playoff game.

• Giovinco got a yellow for yelling at ref (actually he got one in each Leg) and earning a suspension from Semifinal first leg.
• Altidore got into a yelling and shoving match with Kljestan for which they both got yellows, then continued the fracas in the tunnel at half time which saw them both get tossed from the game. Altidore will miss the first leg of the Semifinals. And due to the severity of the whole event I could see him getting a 2nd or 3rd game suspension for a justified punishment. (He won't, but will probably get a small fine, which will mean nothing seeing as he gets paid more than $5 million per year.)

Columbus and Houston both pulled off great upsets! Congrats to them.

My Quick Reviews for Each Team on Sunday:

• Tor - squeeked by in ugly fashion, and the 2 suspensions will hurt them a lot.
• NYRB - didn't have enough offense clearly the 2nd best team on the field, but had chances.
• NYC - lacked a cohesive idea on how to get the important goal.
• Colum - rose above and beyond, maybe pushed by the state of their team in Columbus.
• Port - injuries slowed them and then key players went invisible.
• Hou - rock solid defense, and only their 2nd road win of the whole season.

Christian Pulisic is said to have played his best game of the season for Dortmund, and was the best player on the field for either team, but they lost 3-1 at Bayern.

Caleb Stanko made his senior debut for Freiburg, going the full 90 minutes. But they lost 0-1 to Weston McKennie, 90 minutes also, and his Schalke team.

Dortmund and Schalke are now tied for 3rd most points in the Bundesliga with 20.

• Freiburg is in 16th, the 1st of 3 relegation spots.
